Frugal Fall Crafts: Hand Stamped Placemat

Are we ready for some frugal fall crafts? Awesome. Because at your local Michael’s Craft store you can find a dollar bin full of mini stamp pads and stamps. They seem to change out seasonally, so you never know what patterns or colors you will find. For just a buck, I love snagging these for crafting with the kids and doing simple DIY projects myself. With just $3 in supplies you can make your own hand stamped placemat craft like the ones you see here, which can fancy up even your dinner of mac and cheese. I mean it! Here is how you can make your own hand stamped placemat craft! Oh, and after you are done, be sure to head over and take a peek at our 2017 Fall Home Tour to see how the Homespun House is looking this fall!
Here is what you will need for your hand stamped placemat:
Stamp of choice ( I did find some frugal fall options online as well, here.)
Stamp pad
Linen squares, sold in the scrapbook section for about $1 each
That’s it! You can choose from a variety of linen colors but the lighter the better, as the color of the ink will show brighter.
Making your hand stamped placemat is a cinch. Just lay the linen square flat on the table. Smooth it out to remove any wrinkles. Press the stamp into the ink, and do a practice run on a piece of paper. This will help you decide how hard to press and distribute weight on the stamp. Then, start stamping on your linen.
Fall means apples, so check out my 40+ uses for apples found here!
You can see I pressed a tad too hard and the outline of the stamp shows. It doesn’t bother me, but if you are a perfectionist it is important you do a test run for this reason. K? Now, you can leave a single image in the corner of the linen, or create a pattern like I did.

I didn’t cover the entire piece of cloth, I just did the far right hand side that would show next to my plate when used. Are my lines perfect? No. But I kinda like the rustic, hand stamped look. In all reality you can make a set of 4 placemats for about $6 total, and still have the stamp and ink left to use for other projects. Not too bad.

Right now Michael’s has all sorts of stamps to pick from including pumpkins, leaves, all sorts of fall goodness. You might just lose your mind all up in there. So gather your supplies and give this hand stamped placemat craft a try.
